OUR ADULT ASSESSMENTS CAN NOW BE UNDERTAKEN REMOTELY FROM ANYWHERE IN THE UK

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder present from earliest childhood. Individuals with ADHD have difficulties with inattentiveness, hyperactivity and impulsivity. They may struggle with organisational skills, poor time management and forgetfulness. This can include problems keeping track of tasks and trouble prioritizing them in a logical manner.

While people with ADHD are often easily distractible, they may also experience something called hyper-focus. This is where someone becomes so absorbed in a task or interest that they can become unaware of what else is going on around them. This kind of intense focus can make it easy to lose track of time and ignore those around you, which can lead to relationship misunderstandings.

Individuals with ADHD often experience associated difficulties such as anxiety, depression, social isolation, relationship difficulties, and self-neglect. They may attempt to manage their difficulties by using alcohol or non-prescribed drugs.

Getting a diagnosis as an adult can help you to access additional sources of support at work, university or college. It can also be helpful in your everyday life and relationships. Additionally, there may be strategies or aids that can help with some difficulties. Medication may be an option in some cases.

Our ADHD assessments are multi-disciplinary, meaning they involve meeting with both a consultant psychiatrist and a either a clinical psychologist or an occupational therapist with specialist skills in assessing and diagnosing ADHD. We are committed to providing a “gold standard” assessment, which means our assessments are more expensive than some other providers. We are aware that some privately diagnosed individuals are required to be re-assessed by the NHS if they opt to continue their treatment elsewhere. We aim to provide a very high quality assessment that meets NHS standards and evidence that in a detailed assessment report, which we believe is likely to make your healthcare journey smoother in the long run.

The assessment includes a structured clinical interview, a full developmental history, completion of a series of questionnaires, an interview with someone who has known you for a long time (this can be done by telephone or in person), a feedback session, and a full report detailing the assessment and conclusions. People who receive an ADHD diagnosis will also receive a letter confirming their diagnosis which they can give to employers/universities that does not include confidential or personal information it is not necessary for them to know.

If we think there is a different reason or additional reasons you are having difficulties, we will discuss this with you and offer advice and/or signposting to further sources of support or additional assessment.

It is possible, when clinician availability allows, for this assessment to be completed over the course of one day. Please let us know if this would be your preference. There is likely to be a small additional charge for this.
